Christopher Scott

M.Ed, MRP, CHSE

Dean of the School of Health & Patient Simulation

Christopher is the Dean of the School of Health & Patient Simulation at Springfield Technical Community College and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of human patient simulation. In addition to overseeing the School of Health & Patient Simulation, Dean Scott is responsible for the direction of SIMS Medical Center at STCC, which is a multidisciplinary center that integrates over twenty different educational programs within the School of Health and School of Nursing into daily interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary patient simulation experiences. Prior to being named Dean, Christopher served in numerous capacities at STCC, including as the Assistant Dean, Director of Clinical Education, and Director of Sims Medical Center. Before joining STCC, Christopher worked as a Sr. Clinical Education Specialist for Laerdal Medical Corporation. He has served as a full time professor and Paramedic Program Director at Springfield College in the Emergency Medical Services Management program, EMS Coordinator, and Director of EMS Education at Mercy Medical Center. While at Mercy, Chris was instrumental in facilitating the development of new educational programs and the expansion of the AHA course offerings. Christopher is a critical care paramedic/firefighter and was the co-founder of the Advanced Life Support program for the City of West Springfield. Christopher holds a Masters in Health Education and Curriculum Development and a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services Management from Springfield College in Springfield Massachusetts.

Michael Foss

Dean Emeritus of the School of Health & Patient Simulation

Michael Foss is the former Dean of the School of Health & Patient Simulation and founder of SIMS Medical Center. He has presented on the uses of patient simulation in education at regional and national conferences for over ten years. Prior to STCC, Dean Foss taught at Rochester Institute of Technology in the College of Science where he also performed research on improving speech of the hearing impaired and effects of insonation on living tissue. At Hillsborgh Community College in Tampa he explored the use of animals as a substitute for human patients in medical imaging education. He holds a Bachelors in Teacher Education and a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of South Florida with additional graduate study at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, SUNY Buffalo, University of Mass|Amherst, and is a fellow of MHEELI, the Massachusetts Higher Education Executive Leardership Institute.

Lisa Fugiel

RN, MS, CNE

Director of Nursing

Lisa Fugiel is the Director of Nursing at Springfield Technical Community College. Prior to being Director she taught

Trends in Nursing and assisted with the coordination and integration of simulation in the nursing program. Lisa has a wealth of simulation experience and is an original member of the SIMS Medical Center faculty. She has been presenting nationally on patient simulation since 2004. She works collaboratively with other disciplines in simulation in an effort to provide the best, most realistic student experiences, and continues to provide patient simulation training to colleagues.

Lisa received her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from Salem State College and her Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. In 1999 she worked at an area Medical Center where she collaboratively worked to develop innovative educational programs, including integration of patient simulation for orientation and competency assessment. Lisa has also co-authored a publication titled, “What do we do now that we have SimMan® out of the box? Using a template to develop patient simulation scenarios".

Lisa’s most rewarding experiences are when transference of learning occurs from patient simulation to the live patient and her students have what she likes to call, "The Ah Ha!” moment.
